150 Years of transforming lives.

Why we celebrate anniversaries

In 2026, CU Boulder celebrates 150 years. This anniversary provides our communities a rare chance to reflect on where we’ve been, examine where we are today and imagine the next big ideas that will shape our future. Throughout the year, stories, exhibits and events will highlight CU Boulder’s impact on people, communities and society. These celebrations coincide with Colorado’s own 150th anniversary and the nation’s upcoming 250th, moments that invite us to consider higher education’s role in sustaining democracy and civic responsibility. CU Boulder's history is rich and complex, marked by dozens of innovations and challenges that have shaped who we are. By revisiting these narratives, we reaffirm our commitment to our public mission in a rapidly changing world and can enable 2026 to serve as a year to continue transforming, one that strengthens our shared purpose and inspires CU Boulder’s enduring impact.
